NFL Playoffs - Free Selections
With the NFL Wild Card games now in the books, our attention turns to the NFL Divisional Playoffs. This weekend's games feature some very intriguing match ups of the best teams in the NFL.
Saturday, January 14
Washington at Seattle - The hottest team in the NFL, the Washington Redksins, meets the team with the best record in the NFC - the Seattle Seahawks. The weather report in the Northwest calls for rain, rain and more rain. This will have more of an effect on the Redskins than the Seahawks and their ball-control West Coast Offense. The Redskins will be determined to stop the run and should succeed in at least slowing down the great Shaun Alexander. At the end of the day, however, the Redskins and their banged up offense will lack the horses to thwart the Seahawks. Look for Seattle to accumulate a surprisingly high amount of passing yards and outpace the overachieving Redskins.

Denver at New England - This match up of AFC teams is similar to the NFC match up between Seattle and Washington. Here, the hottest AFC team, the New England Patriots, is taking on the team with the AFC's best record, the Denver Broncos. New England is indeed a very hot team, but who have they really beaten over the past several weeks besides some of their weak division foes; Buffalo, New York and Miami. Denver, for reasons unknown to us, doesn't get anywhere near the respect they deserve. Tom Brady seems to feel the same way about the Patriots. Unfortunately for Tom Brady and company, they lack an effective running game, have a weak secondary, and have to go to Denver to face a tough Broncos team. That adds up to too much to overcome.

Pittsburgh at Indianapolis - Everybody seems to agree, the road to the Super Bowl goes through Indianapolis. If the Pittsburgh Steelers want to get to Detroit, site of this year's Super Bowl, they will have to complete the monumental task of knocking off the Indianapolis Colts in the RCA Dome. We say good luck. The Indianapolis Colts are about as fine tuned a football team as we have seen in the past several years. They have top players at quarterback, receiver and running back, as well as a great offensive line. Did we mention that they also have an awesome defense? It's all Colts all the time.
Sportsbetting Acumen's Pick: Indy -9
Carolina at Chicago - The over/under for this game is just 30-1/2. That is about as low a Total as you will see for an NFL game. We think the Total is high - very high. The 3 points being given by the Bears in this game seems about right. The reality is that both teams in this game should have trouble moving the ball. Look for a field position oriented game as both Lovie Smith and John Fox will try to win the game with their defense and special teams. Playing at home favors the Bears, but the -3 Key Number is just too strong for us to take a side in this game. The Total is another matter.
