Horse Racing Wagering - Betting The Pick Six
Pick Six betting is not the best course of action for most players. The Pick Six may be the source of the largest payoffs in horse racing, sometimes yielding life changing money, but it also requires a large bankroll.
There are two approaches to betting on the Pick Six. The first, and by far cheapest, method is to treat the Pick Six like a lottery ticket and just play one horse per race, with maybe one race with two selections. The other, and much more expensive Pick Six betting strategy, is to put a lot of money into the bet.
Bettors interested in playing the Pick Six are actually better off playing one Pick Six per week for a larger amount of money, then playing several small Pick Six bets throughout a week. Think about it; is it better to put $25 into the Pick Six five times a week for $125, or is it better to play one time per week and bet $125?
The number of combinations on a Pick Six ticket is calculated by multiplying the number of selections in each race. The easiest way to play a Pick Six is to play the entire bet on a single ticket. More savvy players have realized, however, that it is much more efficient to play multiple tickets.
The classic Pick Six strategy, the one use by professional horseplayers, is to divide the contenders for each race into two groups - main horses and backup/alternate horses. Here's an example:

The main ticket consisting of our main contenders costs $48. The second ticket includes a longshot, #7. The longshot is substituted for the main choice in the first race with all of the contenders in the other races remaining the same.

The backup ticket also costs $48. The next step is to substitute the backup horse for the main horses in race 2. All of the other horses from the main ticket remain the same.

This ticket costs only $16. This method of substituting backup horses for main ticket horses continues for each race (except the 6th race where there are no backup tickets. There will be 6 tickets total for this bet, with the total cost of the tickets coming in at $328.
Keep in mind that it is not necessary to have backup horses for every race. You may think that there are two wide open races where you want backup coverage, so you make backup tickets for only those two races. The possibilities are nearly endless.
Thee great thing about the Pick Six is that you don't have to have huge longshots win in order to get a big payoff. Hitting six races in a row is hard no matter what the odds of the horses are. Ideally, a player should have at least one, if not two races worth singling in a Pick Six. This allows for more coverage in the other legs of the wager
